Join Island Trails to experience Shetland's scenery, history, culture, folklore and wildlife with an experienced local guide.
Island Trails is the tour guiding business of local guide and crofter James Tait. James grew up in a traditional crofting community in the South Mainland of Shetland and is still actively involved with crofting and keeping sheep. In all his tours James brings his local knowledge and enthusiasm for the islands history, culture and wildlife. Stories and legends from folklore are often woven into the tour narrative along with examples of the Shetland dialect.
During the main summer season from May to September Island Trails offers both set small group tour itineraries and private bespoke guided tours all in a comfortable minibus that takes up to 8 passengers. The normal weekly schedule is as follows:
Monday - South Mainland Small Group Tour
Tuesday - Private or small group tour on request
Wednesday - Island of Mousa and Scalloway / Central Mainland Tour
Thursday - North Mainland Small Group Tour (including Eshaness)
Friday - South Mainland Small Group Tour
Saturday - Private or small group tour on request
Sunday - Unusually a day off!
